Kirsty Coventry is an Olympic Medalist, renowned athlete, and current Minister of Youth Sport, Arts and Recreation in Zimbabwe‘s 20-member Cabinet under President Emmerson Mnangagwa. She is one of the most decorated Olympians in Africa and has used her platform to advocate for sustainable impacts through her sport.
She has recently set up the Kirsty Coventry Academy and various learn-to-swim programs, such as HEROES that focuses on youth development, education, and health initiatives in Zimbabwe. She hopes to establish these programs all throughout Africa, providing a sense of unity and security by offering safe spaces for communities.
She is a member of the International Olympic Committee, as well as a member of FINA’s athlete committee and a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency. She is also the Vice-President of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the International Surfing Federation. Her work has shown her dedication to creating a positive impact within Africa and on the world. For her leadership and her commitment to inspire young athlete to pursue their sporting ambitions, we honor Kirsty Coventry as our Person of the Month for February 2021.
