Dr. Djibril Diallo, President & CEO of African Renaissance and Diaspora Network (ARDN), Inc. and the Director of the Regional Support Team for West and Central Africa UNAIDS is the SIA-Africa Person of the Month for March 2019.
With over 35 years of experience at the United Nations, Dr. Diallo’s work for peace, sustainable development and protecting the most vulnerable has been recognized by numerous national and international organizations. We are happy to join those groups to honor him.
ARDN is an internationally operating 501(c)(3) NGO that "seeks to accelerate the advent of the African renaissance by advocating for, and supporting, United Nations processes and objectives, such as the Sustainable Development Goals, as they relate to Africa and the African diaspora," according to its website. They mobilize government, educators, artists, intellectuals, the private sector, and youth, using the power of sport and culture.
Diallo previously served as Director in the Office of the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Spokesperson of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Director of Communications at the United Nations Development Programme, and Special Assistant to the Executive Director at the United Nations Children’s Fund. A steadfast supporter of youth, he initiated the first-ever United Nations Youth Leadership Summit in 2006, bringing together youth leaders from 192 countries, with a vision toward gender parity in participation.
A citizen of Senegal, Diallo earned his PhD in linguistics and communication from the University of London, and undergraduate degrees from the University of Dakar, Senegal, and the University of Nottingham. He speaks twelve languages.
