Dr Dominique Carter, SIA-Africa Person's Of The Month, January 2021

Dr Dominique Carter is an agricultural science advisor for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) where she helps to inform policy development and operational planning. As an influential woman in STEM she has progressed through a male dominated field having encountered being underestimated and underutilized in some academic and professional settings, yet has remained determined and achieved ambitious career goals. 

Dominique is the Founder of Global STEM Solutions, LLC, a boutique consulting firm providing leadership and counsel for developing international partnerships in STEM education and research. She has also recently been named among 1000 Inspiring Black Scientists in America by CellMentor.

In addition to her work, she is also interested in emerging technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is passionate about getting more girls, women, and underrepresented minorities to study STEM subjects through mentoring opportunities and sharing her expertise. This includes being the Professional Development Chairperson for the National Society for Black Engineers, the American Society for Microbiology Young Ambassador for Washington, DC and an Advisory Council Member for the Harvard Business Review. Dominique also serves as SIA-Africa’s Under Secretary General. 

For her dedication to inspiring girls to enter the STEM discipline we award Dr Dominique Carter as SIA’s Person of the Month for January 2021.
