SIA-AFRICA PERSON OF THE MONTH, MAY 2022: Fred Swaniker

Fred Swaniker is a Ghanaian serial entrepreneur and leadership development expert who has lived and worked in 10 African countries.

He is the founder of African Leadership Group, an ecosystem of organizations that are catalyzing a new ear of ethical, entrepreneurial African leaders. 

Over the past 16 years, Fred Swaniker has co-founded and led the pre-university African Leadership Academy in South Africa, the African Leadership University, the African Leadership Network, ALX and The Room, a talent agency for the world’s ambitious doers. Collectively, these endeavors aim to transform Africa by developing 3 million African leaders by 2035.

In 2019, Time magazine recognized him as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" and Fast Company included African Leadership Group among the 50 most innovative companies in the world.  

Fred Swaniker previously worked as a consultant at McKinsey before earning an MBA from Stanford and becoming an entrepreneur. He is an Echoing Green Fellow, Aspen Institute Fellow, and was recently recognized as one of TIME Magazine's most influential people of 2019.  He holds honorary doctorate degrees from Macalester College, Middlebury College and Nelson Mandela University.
