SIA-AFRICA PERSON OF THE MONTH, OCTOBER 2022: TOYIN SARAKI

Toyin Ojora-Saraki is a Nigerian philanthropist, a lawyer, and a global advocate for maternal, children’s, and reproductive healthcare. She believes “empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality is crucial to accelerating sustainable development.”

In 2004, she founded The Well Being Foundation Africa to improve the livelihood of women, infants, and children. Toyin has launched several campaigns and donor programs like the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) campaign in 2018 and the MamaCare+Nutrition program in partnership with UNFPA Nigeria.

Her many accomplishments and experience span 20 years; she is the Emeritus Goodwill Ambassador for the International Confederation of Midwives and the Special Adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa Independent Advisory Group (AFRO), a member of the Concordia Leadership Council, a Global Champion for the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, a Devex UHC Global Champion, and a Social Good Moms Maternal Health Hero.

We honor Toyin Saraki for her leadership and continued commitment to improving healthcare for women and children, her contributions to education and socio-economic development, and her advocacy against gender-based discrimination and violence.
